Apparently my hiatus from home improvement is complete.

Too bad John's office isn't. Here's a snatch of the wall after one hour of removing wallpaper border. Here's a very poor photo showing the opposite side of what was left. What you can't discern from this view is the jog to the left the wall takes. Just when you thought no more wall border could fit in such a narrow space.

Toward the end of the afternoon John came in and exclaimed, "Wow! You're already down to the end of that wall?"
And I'm all like, yea, already. A mere three hours later already. My how time flies WHEN YOU'RE NOT REMOVING WALLPAPER BORDER.

Then I chewed up his head I had just bit off and spit it out.

Not really. That would have made even more of a mess.

A friend told me recently that her husband read an article saying that if a housewife were paid for what she did she it would be the equivalent of about $25,000 a year.

I just laughed, "At least!" I think they forgot the weekend overtime on that one.

Stay tuned for an "After" photo. It might be awhile on this one.

Ooo, I definitely cannot wait for the "after" picture! I started tearing down wallpaper and layers of old paint in our front foyer months ago, and never finished the wall I started! We were just talking at dinner tonight about how I need to get back to working on it.

As for a homemaker's pay, if you figure in that we are nurses, maids, cooks, chauffers, secretaries, commanders, seamstresses, oh the list goes on.....do you think we could rake in more that 25k? Cause I sure think we are worth more than that! Who do these people think they are that they can stiff us with such meager pay?! There I go, on my soapbox again!

Not sure you're in the mood for a wallpaper removal hint but I did read the other day that vinegar sometimes helps loosen it up. In all our years of stripping wallpaper from old houses, we've never tried vinegar. Try "scoring" it first. Good luck!

Can not wait to see the room. I heart that you thought MAMMA MIA was a let down toooo! Why aren't you my neighbor!

25K HMMPH I think NOT! Who pulled that number out of their....OOO brain (trying to be nice) Lets call and get everything priced out. A accountant for the bills, A maid, A Nanny, a Cook, Lawn service, a teacher, I think adding the cost of all those services would show us our worth and MUCH more! HMMMP 25K my patottie!

You and your home improvements are so funny! I know that I will be hitting you up one day for some inexpensive ideas though.

Ha ha, that is funny about the housewife salary. I totally agree that number was low balled. I would like to know how much a woman/mother who works plus comes home and does all the household chores would make? I think that being a mother is one of the most unappreciated jobs out there. If only I had had the same understanding as a teenager that I do now.

Not too long ago someone did some research about what it would cost to replace the wife/mother of an active household. I read it somewhere and there was quite a bit of buzz about it. The salary was about $150,000 to $160,000. The $25,000 was a real low ball figure if that is correct.

Love your home improvement blogs. I have a suggestion. What I do when such a project is imminent, I find some friends who are really good at whatever job needs to be done, invite them to a task oriented dinner and feed them. I will be cooking a King Ranch casserole and the trimmings in order to get my icemaker operational.

Removing wallpaper is the worst! You'll be so glad you did it once it's over though :)

And BTW, housewives are worth so much more than 20k a year! I stumbled upon this website awhile back and it gave me a good laugh. If only I could really make the big bucks they recommend here!

It's official! A housewife's salary is worth triple digits in the open market at least!

Judi,
Just FYI, I've been using liquid fabric softener mixed in with hot hot water to remove the wallpaper border. I don't know if it's as effective as vinegar w/b, but at least the room smells "mountain fresh"!
